Mohave Point lies on the northern end of a deep tributary canyon, allowing for expansive views to the west that give way to spectacular sunsets.
Intensity: 1, Duration: .5-1 hours, Location: Grand Canyon Village
Description
Much like Hopi Point, Mohave Point is favored for its views of the canyon during sunset, though in comparison it is typically less crowded. The vista is surrounded on both sides by tributaries - Salt Creek on the east side, and Monument Creek on the west. From the edge of the promontory, near-vertical cliffs fall sharply from the rim and drop 3,000 feet to form an area known as The Abyss. The eastern wall of the canyon is famously referred to as Great Mohave Wall - even more spectacular views of the wall can be seen from Pima Point to the west. Looking east, the view begins with Bright Angel Canyon as it extends out from the North Rim, along with Ninetyfour Mile Creek, Trinity Creek, and Ninetyone Mile Creek. Deep in the inner gorge, Monument Creek leads to a half-mile stretch of the Colorado, and the rushing white waters of Boucher and Granite rapids can just barely be spotted on the swift river below.
