END OF SUMMER PACKAGE IN GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK RESULTS IN SAVINGS OF UP TO 44 PERCENT OFF HIGH-SEASON RATES

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – July 2, 2009Coinciding with the National Park Service’s Fee-Free Weekend in mid-August, Xanterra South Rim, L.L.C.*, operator of the lodges and other services in Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim, will offer its “End of Summer Package.”

The “End of Summer” package is available at Maswik Lodge and Yavapai Lodge. This package is based upon double occupancy and is available Aug. 15 – Sept. 10, 2009 and features accommodations, breakfast for two at Maswik Lodge or Yavapai Lodge, one motorcoach tour for two and discounts in Xanterra gift shops of up to 20 percent. The package prices represent a savings of up to 44 percent compared to purchasing the items separately.

“This is a terrific time to visit the Grand Canyon,” said Gordon Taylor, general manager of Xanterra South Rim, L.L.C. “We experience a slight slowdown in visitation beginning in late August as families prepare for the new school year and the empty nesters stay home for the Labor Day weekend.”

The rate at Maswik Lodge is $165 per night and features accommodations in a “Maswik North” room, breakfast for two, a Sunset or Hermits Rest tour in the morning or afternoon and a one-time gift shop discount good for 10 percent off purchases of $50-149.99 and 20 percent off purchases $150 and above.

The rate at Yavapai Lodge is $150 and features accommodations in a “Yavapai East” room , breakfast for two, a Sunset or Hermits Rest tour in the morning or afternoon and a one-time gift shop discount good for 10 percent off purchases of $50-149.99 and 20 percent off purchases $150 and above.

Rack rates for rooms are normally $170 per night at Maswik North and $153 at Yavapai East. Rates do not include taxes. This package is not available Sept. 5 and 6, 2009.

In addition to operating lodging, restaurants and gift shops at the South Rim, Xanterra offers activities such as mule trips and motorcoach tours. Travelers may also wish to leave the car behind and arrive at the Grand Canyon via train on the Grand Canyon Railway as it makes its daily round trip from Williams, Ariz. There are also a variety of tours and activities in Grand Canyon Village with a self-guided walking tour of the historic district of Grand Canyon Village.
