When winter comes, Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park puts on a sweater of solitude and mystery, drawing travelers from around the world seeking inspiration and rejuvenation. Concessioner Xanterra South Rim is making it easy to experience a wintertime respite with reduced rates at Maswik Lodge and a couples package at the historic El Tovar.
“The Canyon is serene and beautiful in the winter, and our guests seem to be quieter and perhaps more introspective than they are in the summer,” said Jon Streit, general manager of Xanterra South Rim. “We see lots of guests perched on a rock and simply staring at the vastness of the park, or waiting quietly with their cameras for the perfect light of sunset. I think travelers are drawn here because they are seeking inspiration.”
And that inspiration comes at bargain prices for visitors staying overnight in Maswik Lodge or El Tovar, two of the six lodges at the South Rim.
Rates at Maswik Lodge, one of Xanterra’s two off-rim lodges, drop now through March 7, 2013. And the historic El Tovar is offering a Romance Package from late November through mid-February as well, an exceptional bargain for couples seeking to rekindle their relationship in an awe-inspiring location. Long considered the crown jewel of the Grand Canyon hotels, El Tovar features 78 rooms fashioned after European hunting lodges. Constructed in 1905 by the Santa Fe Railroad using native stone and Oregon pine, El Tovar offers a gift shop, dining room, lounge and sightseeing tours.
The Winter Value Rate at Maswik Lodge is $85 per night plus tax at Maswik South and $115 per night at Maswik North. No promo codes are required to receive the Winter Value rate.
Guests who need more time to enjoy this natural wonder’s premier hiking trails or explore Grand Canyon Village’s fascinating history and architecture may stay at least two nights at Maswik North and receive an additional discount and pay $95 – the same rate offered in winter 2011-12 – per night plus tax. This rate requires at least two consecutive nights and the promo code is “STAY2” when making reservations.
The one- and two-night Winter Value Rates are available from now through March 7, 2013, excluding Dec. 21 – 31, 2012. The rates are valid for single or double occupancy. The cost for each additional person in the room is $9. Children 16 and under stay in the same room at no extra charge. Lodge and room type are subject to availability and seasonal closures. Summer and holiday rates at this hotel ranges from $92 to $176 per night.
If needed, Xanterra will open and offer the winter rate at Yavapai Lodge where room rates will be $85 per night plus tax at Yavapai West and $115 per night at Yavapai East.
Maswik Lodge is a 278-room facility located a short walk from the South Rim and at the southwest end of Grand Canyon Village. Named for a Hopi Kachina who is said to guard the Grand Canyon, Maswik features a gift shop, cafeteria, lounge, rooms with private baths and sightseeing tours.
The El Tovar Romance Package at the elegant El Tovar includes one night in a standard queen room, a bottle of California sparkling wine and fruit basket in the room and dinner for two with a bottle of Grand Canyon label wine in the El Tovar Dining Room. The base package cost is $380 plus tax subject to availability. Guests may upgrade to a deluxe room or suite, based upon availability, for an additional charge. The Romance Package is available now through Feb. 14, 2013, excluding Dec. 8, 2012, Dec. 22, 2012 through Jan. 1, 2013 and Jan. 9, 2013.
