Skunks are common in North, Central and South America, and live in a variety of habitats including forests, cities and suburbs. They are usually black with white stripes and have a bushy tail. Skunks are nocturnal, or active at night. They use their sharp claws to dig up insects, worms and roots. They also eat small rodents and fruit. when threatened, they spray a smelly liquid that travels as far as 10 feet.
