GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz., Nov. 22, 2013 – Few winter coats are as stylish or spectacular as what the Grand Canyon wears every year.
“The Grand Canyon tells a different story in different seasons and at various times of the day,” said Jon Streit, general manager of Xanterra South Rim. “During the winter when the light hits at sharper angles, we still see something new on practically a daily basis. Photographers don’t have to wait long for inspiration.”
The Canyon Winter Escape package will be offered for the first time at Kachina and Thunderbird Lodges. These identical rim lodges feature a total of 104 rooms and are located between the historic El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge. The package for two features overnight accommodations, breakfast at the Bright Angel Restaurant, a motorcoach tour and a one-time gift shop discount good for 10 percent off purchases of $50-149.99 and 20 percent off purchases $150 and above. The package is available Jan. 6 – Feb. 13, 2014 with the exception of Jan. 18-20, 2014. Rates are $179 for a street-side room and $189 for a canyon-side room. The promo code for booking this package is “ESCAPE.”
For travelers who appreciate the charm and romance of historic hotels, Xanterra is offering an especially good, limited-time deal at El Tovar. The El Tovar Romance Package is available Nov. 10 through Dec. 19, excluding Nov. 27 through 30, 2013. The package includes one night in a standard queen room, a bottle of California sparkling wine and fruit basket in the room and dinner for two with a bottle of Grand Canyon label wine in the El Tovar Dining Room. The base package cost is $380 plus tax subject to availability. Guests may upgrade to a deluxe room or suite, based upon availability, for an additional charge. When booking the Romance Package online, guests must enter the promo code “ROMANCE.”
Rates at Maswik Lodge, one of Xanterra’s two off-rim lodges, drop Nov. 10, 2013 through March 6, 2014. The Winter Value Rate at Maswik Lodge is $87 per night plus tax at Maswik South and $118 per night at Maswik North. To receive the Winter Value rate, guests need to use the promo code “WINTER.”.
Guests may stay at least two nights at Maswik North at an even better rate of $199 plus tax for both nights. This rate requires at least two consecutive nights and the promo code is “STAY2” when making reservations. Additional consecutive nights are available for $99.50.
The one- and two-night Winter Value Rates are available from Nov. 10, 2013 through March 6, 2014, excluding Nov. 27-30, and Dec. 20, 2013 – Jan. 4, 2014 and Feb. 15 -18, 2014. The rates are valid for single or double occupancy. The cost for each additional person in the room is $9. Children 16 and under stay in the same room at no extra charge. Lodge and room type are subject to availability and seasonal closures. Summer and holiday rates at this hotel range from $90 to $174 per night.
If needed, Xanterra will open and offer the winter rate at Yavapai Lodge where room rates will be $87 per night plus tax at Yavapai West and $118 per night at Yavapai East.
Maswik Lodge is a 278-room facility located a short walk from the South Rim and at the southwest end of Grand Canyon Village. Named for a Hopi Kachina who is said to guard the Grand Canyon, Maswik features a gift shop, cafeteria, lounge, rooms with private baths and sightseeing tours.
