Water conservation measures on the South Rim starting Saturday, April 11

Posted April 10, 2026 2:23 p.m.

Grand Canyon National Park will implement additional water conservation measures on the South Rim starting Saturday, April 11, due to a series of significant breaks in the 12½ mile-long Transcanyon Waterline that supplies water from the inner canyon for use in the park.

While the park remains open to visitors and overnight lodging guests, the following measures will be enacted for the foreseeable future:
• Overnight Guest Lodging: Overnight lodging within the park will remain available, with reduced occupancy to conserve water. Xanterra will contact impacted guests with existing reservations for stays April 11 through April 17 via email with the most up-to-date information regarding their stay.
• Overnight accommodations in Tusayan at The Grand Hotel and Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites, located outside the park, are not affected and will remain fully open. Additionally, the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams is a great option.

For the latest information, please visit the National Park Service website.

Grand Canyon North Rim

The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will reopen to the public at 6 a.m. on May 15, 2026, with all paved roads—including Highway 67, Cape Royal, and Point Imperial Roads—accessible for scenic drives to popular viewpoints like Point Imperial and Cape Royal. The North Kaibab Trail will also reopen for hiking (foot traffic only), though visitors should expect possible delays or temporary closures due to ongoing maintenance, post-fire conditions, and weather. Cottonwood Campground will be available for overnight stays, and most backcountry areas will be open, while the North Rim Campground will reopen later in the season as conditions allow. Please note that lodging will not be available within the park on the North Rim in 2026, but fuel, food, and water are available at the North Rim Country Store and Jacob Lake.
