The south rim of Grand Canyon National Park or the Grand Canyon village is located 60 miles north of Williams, Arizona (via route 64 from Interstate 40) and 80 miles northwest of Flagstaff (via route 180). Grand Canyon lies entirely within the state of Arizona. Its closest city surrounding the entrance is Tusayan, AZ.

Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) – in Phoenix, Arizona is about 3 hours and 45 minutes (232 miles) to the Grand Canyon Village. This is the closest international airport.

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) – in Las Vegas, Nevada is about 4 hours and 15 minutes (277) from The Grand Canyon Village.

Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) – in Flagstaff, Arizona is about 1 hour and 45 minutes (89 miles) from The Grand Canyon Village.

Parking near the canyon’s rim, including parking for El Tovar Hotel, Kachina Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge, and Bright Angel Lodge, can be very limited. To best plan your Grand Canyon visit, please click here for additional information on road conditions and Historic Village parking locations.

There are six EV charging stations that can be found at Maswik Lodge (North), Canyon Village Market, and Yavapai Lodge. Visit the NPS.gov/grca page for more information.

There are free Shuttle Buses operated by NPS throughout the park during different times/routes per season. Visit NPS.gov for more schedule & route information.

Please note that all packages shipped to Grand Canyon National Park Lodges are quarantined for 24 hours upon delivery. After the quarantine period, packages may be retrieved at the address above Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm Arizona/MST.

The South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is open year-round; however, some of Grand Canyon National Park Lodges’ lodging, restaurants and gift shops are open seasonally and/or with limited hours.

The elevation is 6,900 feet above sea level.

Summers are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 50°-80°F. If you do venture down into the canyon the temperatures increase, sometimes exceeding over 100°F. The sun is powerful in the high-altitude, so wearing hats and sunscreen is highly advised. Evenings are cool around 40°-50°F and wearing light jackets or sweaters is a good idea.

Winters are cold with temperatures between 40°-50°F or lower. We recommend you bring warm clothes and prepare for icy roads and trails, potential road closures and snow.

Spring and fall at Grand Canyon can be unpredictable. Generally days are comfortably warm around 50°-60°F and the nights cooler. This time of year can have some of the best weather for hiking.

At the Grand Canyon, you can encounter any weather, in any season, so packing layers are essential year-round. You’ll also want sturdy footwear, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle.

Yes, all major carriers currently offer service; however, we cannot make any guarantees to the signal strength.

Unfortunately, we do not offer a business center.

The National Park Service currently charges $35 per private vehicle at each of the entrance gates. This fee varies when entering by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and commercial vehicles. Please visit the National Park Service website for the most current fee information. Note that fees are waived with a valid National Park pass.

Gasoline is only available inside of the park seasonally at Desert View. Gasoline is available year-round just outside of the park to the south in Tusayan.

Xanterra operates a collection of gift shops located at our lodges. Our thoughtfully curated items feature art from local artisans, indigenous artists, sustainable items, made in USA products, and much more! There are additional gift shops located at some of the National Park Service ran attractions such as Kolb studio, the Hopi House, The Lookout Studio and Hermit’s rest.  Guest’s can also purchase select items through our online gift shop!

Our Grand Canyon Mule Ride DVD and many more related souvenirs can be purchased at any of our in-park gift stores or from the Online Store. This DVD is the perfect pre-trip DVD to help you prepare for a colorful and exciting mule riding experience to the bottom of Grand Canyon.

Xanterra operates lodging both inside the National Park and in Tusayan, Arizona (about 1 mile from the South Rim entrance). You can find more information about our in-park lodges here.

Outside of the park:

With the exception of Phantom Ranch, we accept reservations for stays up to 13 months in advance. On the first of each month, we will begin accepting reservations for the entire month of the following year. For example, on March 1 we will accept reservations through March 31 the following year. Yes, you can modify and cancel your hotel reservations online. We recommend you modify or cancel your reservation online when possible. Use our online reservation system to sign-in. You may retrieve your reservation via the below “Modify or cancel an existing reservation” button, click “Modify & Cancel” and follow the prompts to login with your email address and password. If you have not setup an online profile with a password, please click on “Find my reservation” and follow the prompts with the required details.

Please be advised, Phantom Ranch and any tour/activity reservations can only be canceled but not modified online. Please call Central Reservations for modifications on Phantom Ranch of tour/activity bookings.

Accessible rooms are available, including some with roll-in showers. These rooms are available at El Tovar, Kachina, Thunderbird, and Maswik. For additional details, please call Central Reservations (7a-7p MT) at (888) 297-2757.

A wait list for room reservations is not available.

Cancellations do occur; however, they can occur at random, which could result in limited success in obtaining the dates and accommodations you desire. If your first choice is not available, rather than scheduling your vacation around the possibility of a cancellation, we suggest checking alternate dates instead. If you want to continue to check for cancellations, you may call 1-888-29-PARKS (888-297-2757) 7a-7p MT or visit our online booking engine.

You can use our online reservation system  to sign-in. You may retrieve your reservation via the below “Modify or cancel an existing reservation” button, click “Modify & Cancel” and follow the prompts to login with your email address and password. If you have not setup an online profile with a password, please click on “Find my reservation” and follow the prompts with the required details. If the reservation has been made through another website, company, or travel agency, please contact them directly for any modifications, cancellations or specific questions regarding your reservation.

You can check-in at any time past check-in hours, the front desks are open 24/7. For Kachina Lodge, check-in is at El Tovar Hotel front desk (right next door). For Thunderbird Lodge, check-in is at Bright Angel Lodge front desk (right next door).

Cooking is not allowed in any of the guestrooms or cabins inside Grand Canyon National Park.

Pets of any kind are not permitted in the lodges inside Grand Canyon National Park; only service animals are allowed. A kennel is available for boarding cats and dogs (call 928-638-2631, open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily).

We offer televisions at all our lodges except Phantom Ranch and certain lodge rooms/cabins at Bright Angel Lodge.

All rooms are non-smoking, and non-vaping.

All rooms have heat. El Tovar, Maswik Lodge, Phantom Ranch, Kachina Lodge and Thunderbird Lodge will have either air conditioning or evaporative cooling. Bright Angel does rooms and cabins do not offer air conditioning or evaporative cooling with the exception of the Red Horse Cabin Suite.

Wi-Fi is free and located in various areas throughout the park, including our hotels and restaurants.  Due to the remote location of the South Rim, however, access to the internet via Wi-Fi is limited and much slower than typical residential, business or workplace services.

The South Rim Village offers a wide range of dining options varying from Grab & Go options to casual and finer dining sit-down options. Find more information on the individual restaurants by visiting our Dining tab.

Advance dining reservations are required for lunch and dinner at El Tovar Dining Room and can be made online 60 days in advance. Reservations are neither required or accepted for breakfast at El Tovar Dining Room.

Advance dining reservations are strongly recommended at the Arizona Steakhouse and can also be made online 60 days in advance.
